In the valley where this photo was taken, there was a time when grizzlies who showed their faces and trusted humans could be killed for sport. But the trophy hunting ceased in the first part of the decade and we’ve witnessed a growing trust from the bears. Kevin Smith took this photo of a curious bear who checked out our colourful appearance and then continued his afternoon, feasting in the sedges. Mountains covered in waterfalls and forest shelter this rich meadow where many grizzlies spend their days. Taken on a Great Bear Rainforest trip in June.
