General information on how to get to our boutique expedition cruises

Detailed, trip-specific information is available for each trip and is provided after booking. This is an overview so that you can understand how the travel would generally work. Please do not book nonrefundable airfare before getting the boarding and disembarking times for your trip. HTGH-general

Flights to and from Port Destinations

Our BC and Alaska trips originate from ports along the coast that are serviced by regularly scheduled flights.

All of our British Columbia trips fly in and out of Vancouver International Airport, in Vancouver, BC.

If you are flying with Pacific Coastal, you will fly from Vancouver International Airport South Terminal. Please visit their website for details on the South Terminal.

All of our Alaska trips fly in and out of Seattle-Tacoma Airport, in Washington State, USA with Alaska Airline.

Getting to Start and End Ports

Bella Bella, BC

Airport: Bella Bella Airport (ZEL)

Airline: Pacific Coastal Airlines

From/To the Airport: A shuttle van services between the Bella Bella airport and the Waglisla dock where the ship will be. This Shuttle meets all incoming flights.

Hotel Recommendations: Shearwater Resort 

 

Campbell River, BC

Airport: Campbell River Airport (YBL)

Airline: Pacific Coastal Airlines

From/ To the Airport: Taxi services are readily available at the airport when you land. Contact information for taxi companies is provided to you before your tour, should you need to call the taxi upon your arrival. At the end of your tour your captain will arrange a taxi pick up at the marina to take you to the airport.

Hotel Recommendations: Coast Discovery Inn or Painters Lodge

 

If you choose to drive, parking pass (free of charge) is available from the Discovery Harbour Marina office on ‘K’ dock.

 

Ketchikan, AK– Note flights to Ketchikan are through Seattle-Tacoma Airport, WA

Airport: Ketchikan International Airport (KTN)

Airline: Alaska Airlines

Getting to/from the ship: Taxi services are readily available at the airport when you land. Contact information for taxi companies is provided to you before your tour, should you need to call the taxi upon your arrival. At the end of your tour your captain will arrange a taxi pick up at the marina to take you to the airport.

Kitimat, BC

Airport: Northwest Regional Airport (YXT), Terrace, BC – 45 minute drive to Kitimat

Airline: Air CanadaWest Jet

From/ To the Airport: Prior to your flight you will call Kalum Kabs Taxi Service, you will arrange to have them pick you up at the airport and shuttle you to the ship at the MK Bay Marina. If ending in Kitimat, we will arrange a shuttle van back to the airport as you will be sharing the shuttle service with other guests on your tour. 

Hotel Recommendations: MStar Hotel or Minette Bay Lodge

 

If you choose to drive, parking pass is available from the MK Bay Marina office for $5 a day.

 

Masset, BC

Airport: Masset Airport (ZMT)

Airline: Pacific Coastal Airline

From/ To the Airport: You will be met at the airport by your tour guide who will then take you on a tour of the Masset area, to your accommodation for the night, and continue your tour of Graham Island on day two, ultimately getting you to the ship in the late afternoon on day two.

Nanaimo, BC

Airport: Nanaimo, BC (YCD)

Airline: Air Canada, West Jet

From/ To the Airport: Taxi services are readily available at the airport when you land. Contact information for taxi companies is provided to you before your tour, should you need to call the taxi upon your arrival. At the end of your tour your captain will arrange a taxi pick up at the marina to take you to the airport.

 

If you choose to drive, parking is available at the marina parkade for $11/day.

 

Petersburg, AK– Note flights to Petersburg are through Seattle-Tacoma Airport, WA

Airport: Petersburg James A. Johnson Airport (PSG)

Airline: Alaska Airlines

From/ To the Airport: Taxi services are available at the airport when you land. Contact information for the taxi company is provided to you before your tour, should you need to call the taxi upon your arrival. At the end of your tour your captain will arrange a taxi pick up at the marina to take you to the airport.

Hotel Recommendations: Scandia House or Nordic House B&B 

 

Port McNeill, BC

Airport: Port Hardy Airport (YZT), 30 minute drive to Port McNeill

Airline: Pacific Coastal Airlines

From/ To the Airport: Contact information for the taxi company is provided to you before your tour, you can reserve a taxi prior to your flight, they will meet you at the airport and take you to Port McNeill to meet the ship. At the end of your tour your captain will arrange a taxi pick up at the marina to take you to the airport.

Hotel Recommendations: Kwalilas Hotel

 

There is long-term pay parking in Port McNeill. If you go to the Port McNeill Visitor Center at 1594 Beach Drive, they will be able to assist you in directing you to an appropriate lot, quite close to the marina for $5.35/day.

 

Prince Rupert, BC

Airport: Prince Rupert Airport (YPR)-Located on Digby Island beside Prince Rupert, a free shuttle and ferry ride to downtown Prince Rupert is included in your flight.

Airline: Air Canada

From/ To the Airport: You can reserve a taxi prior to your flight or call them once your are in Prince Rupert, they will meet you at the airport shuttle drop off location and take you to the ship. At the end of your tour your captain will arrange a taxi pick up at the marina to take you to the airport shuttle. Please leave at least 1.5 hours between flight arrival and boarding time.

Sandspit, BC

Airport: Sandspit Airport (YZP)

Airline: Air Canada

From/ To the Airport: Maple Leaf Adventures has pre-arranged your shuttle service from the ship to the airport at the end of your tour. 

Hotel Recommendations: Jags Guest Rooms or Haida House

 

Sidney, BC 

Airport: Victoria International Airport (YYJ)

Airline: Air Canada, West Jest, Pacific Coastal Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta

From/ To the Airport: Taxi services are readily available at the airport when you land. The Marina in Sidney is a short 10 minute drive from the airport. Contact information for taxi companies is provided to you before your tour, should you need to call the taxi upon your arrival. At the end of your tour your captain will arrange a taxi pick up at the marina to take you to the airport.

Hotel Recommendations: The Latch Inn or Sidney Waterfront Inn 

 

Long term pay parking is available at Lot F at 9751 Third St. for $10/24hrs (then taxi to marina).
 
 

Sitka, AK – Note flights to Sitka are through Seattle-Tacoma Airport, WA

Airport: Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport (SIT)

Airline: Alaska Airlines

From/ To the Airport: Taxi services are readily available at the airport when you land. Contact information for taxi companies is provided to you before your tour, should you need to call the taxi upon your arrival. At the end of your tour your captain will arrange a taxi pick up at the marina to take you to the airport.

Hotel Recommendations: Aspen Suites Hotel or Westmark Hotels

 

Other Methods of Travel

Ferries

Ferries transport passengers between Vancouver and Victoria, Vancouver and Nanaimo, Port Hardy and Prince Rupert, Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii, Seattle and Victoria, and Alaskan ports and Prince Rupert. Travelling by ferry requires careful planning and sometimes a car. In Canada, ferries are operated by BC Ferries. In Alaska, ferries are operated by the Alaska State Ferry Corporation.

Driving

If you wish to drive to and/or from your trip, you may be able to, depending on the location. You can often get this information from community tourism websites.
