The Destination: Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest

The Great Bear Rainforest spans over 6.4 million hectares along British Columbia’s central coast, making it one of the largest intact temperate rainforests in the world. Towering old-growth, salmon-rich rivers, and pristine landscapes are your backdrop, home to remarkable wildlife, including black bears, grizzles, coastal wolves, humpback whales, and the elusive Spirit Bear—a rare white subspecies of black bear found exclusively here.

Jenny Wong highlights the uniqueness of the Spirit Bear, saying, “It’s the rarest sighting of all, and experiencing it in the middle of this intact ecosystem makes it even more magical.”

Adding to the experience, the trip explores remote areas accessible only by water, with opportunities to visit secluded inlets and observe wildlife undisturbed in its natural habitat.

The Experience: More Than Just Photography

This trip is about more than taking stunning photography—it’s about becoming part of the Great Bear Rainforest’s story. Daily excursions with expert guides and naturalists will deepen your understanding of the interconnectedness of this ecosystem. You’ll walk beneath ancient cedars, watch bears fishing for salmon, and learn how the region’s Indigenous communities have stewarded the land for generations.

Jenny Wong shares, “Even as an experienced photographer, I rely on guides who know the area intimately. They share invaluable knowledge about the wildlife, their behavior, and the traditions tied to the land, helping guests connect more deeply with their subjects.”

What can Guests Take Away?

Participants will leave this trip with more than just stunning images. Jenny emphasizes the transformative power of the experience:

  • A Renewed Connection to Nature: “Here, you see how everything is connected—how salmon bring the ocean’s wealth to land, how bears disperse nutrients, and how the old-growth canopy protects rivers. It’s a reminder of our place in the natural world.”
  • Photography Skills: Jenny teaches more than just technical skills. “I want to show guests how to communicate through their images—to tell a story that resonates with viewers, not just make them say ‘wow.’”
  • A Sense of Wellness: The combination of breathtaking landscapes, engaging activities, and meaningful encounters fosters a sense of renewal. “You’ll leave feeling inspired, educated, and reconnected to the world around you.”
