Explore Desolation Sound, Salish Sea & Vancouver Island with Survivorman’s Les Stroud
Stroud shares wisdom from elders around the world about living with nature, on a special boutique expedition cruise
Respected Canadian outdoorsman, filmmaker and musician Les Stroud will share insights from global elders and from living on his own in nature, as he joins Maple Leaf Adventures on an expedition cruise in British Columbia Apr 27-May 4, 2017.
The weeklong trip explores the fabled fjords and islands of Desolation Sound, Vancouver Island and the Salish Sea, on Canada’s southwest coast, as spring blooms. It features the natural world, including plenty of shore trips and wildlife viewing with naturalist guides, including Stroud.
As a bonus on this trip, Stroud will be available for one-on-one conversations as well as group presentations.
He has been taught by indigenous peoples, ethnobotanists and survivalists, in places as diverse as the Kalahari desert, the Canadian Arctic and the Papua New Guinea rainforest, on how to live alone, without tools, in nature. He will share his rare insights from this experience, including how humans across the globe connect spiritually to the earth.
The trip, aboard the heritage Canadian sailing ship Maple Leaf, is definitely comfortable. While Stroud may be an expert at living off grubs and sleeping on rocks, Maple Leaf’s small group of guests will dine on gourmet food by the ship’s chef, in the warmth and comfort of the Maple Leaf’s galley.
Shore destinations include wild beaches, rainforest walks, heritage farmsteads, and wildflower meadows. Cruising includes mountain-peaked fjords and archipelagos.
Desolation Sound is rated one of the world’s best small-boat cruising destinations for its combination of snow-capped mountains, abundant islands, beautiful anchorages, and remote nature. It’s a place for people who love to explore.
Stroud is a fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and one of television’s more respected producers and stars. He created the hit television series Survivorman himself, inventing the genre. A talented recording artist, he’ll also lead a musical evening aboard.
Maple Leaf Adventures’ trips have won awards for quality and sustainability, including a “World’s Best Cruises” designation from Fodor’s.
