A New Bella Bella Round-Trip Aboard Maple Leaf Adventures’ Cascadia
In October 2026, we’re offering two special 6-day expeditions aboard our 24-person catamaran Cascadia that focus exclusively on the southern reaches of the Great Bear Rainforest.
Sailing October 4–9 and October 10–15, 2026, these round-trip journeys begin and end in Bella Bella and explore a region of fjords, outer islands, estuaries, and whale-rich channels that many longer itineraries simply pass by. If you’re considering one of these departures, here’s what makes them unique—and who they’re best suited for.
Where We Explore
Points of Interest
Ports
These voyages stay rooted in the southern Great Bear, where the landscape and wildlife encounters are shaped by a rich mix of estuaries, inner channels, and outer coast ecosystems. Days are spent exploring prime grizzly bear estuaries, scanning whale-rich channels, and moving between offshore island environments alive with sea otters and intertidal life, all framed by steep fjords and waterfall-lined inlets.
While both black bears and grizzlies are very likely sightings, these itineraries do not travel into spirit bear habitat. For those with their sights set on that rare encounter, our 8-day fall expeditions or the 6-day Bella Bella–Kitamaat route would be the better fit.
More Time on the Water, Among Islands
Rather than pushing north, these itineraries lean westward into the outer island realm. Weather permitting, you’ll kayak through protected island passages, step ashore on remote beaches in places like Nalu Passage, and explore intertidal shelves rich with life, while keeping watch for sea otters rafting just offshore.
There’s a distinct shift in energy here—less enclosed, more ocean-facing. The rhythm is shaped by exposed shores, marine mammals, and long Pacific horizons, offering a contrast to the deeply sheltered inlets further north.
Bella Bella Round-Trip Simplicity
Both departures start and end in Bella Bella, eliminating overland transfers between communities. Guests are welcomed into Heiltsuk territory at the outset, and the voyage concludes with a visit to the spectacular Big House in Bella Bella.
This format works particularly well for those adding the trip onto a BC driving holiday.

A Snapshot Of the Experience
Across six days, the rhythm of the journey unfolds like this:
It’s compact—but not rushed. The shorter duration simply means we concentrate on one region rather than traversing multiple territories.
Same rainforest. Different perspective.

Experience the raw wonder of the Great Bear Rainforest in fall. A place where the rhythm of life follows the tides, and the air carries the salt of the Pacific and the scent of cedar.
These October 2026 departures aboard Cascadia are not shortened versions of our classic fall trips. They are deliberately designed southern explorations—fjord-rich, island-forward, and marine-focused.
If your schedule calls for six days, and you’re drawn to grizzlies, whales, sea otters, kayaking, hot springs, and a strong sense of place in Heiltsuk territory, this itinerary delivers exactly that.
