Seasonal relief and on-call positions: Multiple contracts available between April to November with the opportunity to join our winter maintenance teams.

Our Company:

Maple Leaf Adventures is a highly respected marine ecotourism company that operates small ship nature cruises to world-class wilderness destinations along the coasts of British Columbia and Alaska.

Our Ships:

Our ships are certified passenger vessels, but they are not cruise ships. Each is unique and hand-built with purpose. Maple Leaf is a classic, 92-foot schooner. She accommodates up to 8 guests, and a crew of 5. Swell is a beautiful, classic, converted tugboat. She accommodates up to 12, and a crew of 5. Cascadia is a luxury, expedition style catamaran. She accommodates up to 24, and a crew of 10.

Successful Candidates:

Our Maple Leaf Crew have an immense amount of enthusiasm for environmental sustainability, natural history, fostering the local economy, connections with science and discovery, and sharing the coast’s wonders with our guests. Our ideal candidate is flexible and organized with proven ability to anticipate the needs of guests and overall operations.

Deckhands on board must be guest services orientated, including steward/cleaning duties and helping in the galley. This role provides support to the Captain, Mate and Chef to provide a comfortable experience for guests on board. Ideal candidates show promises to become mates with experience and relevant certifications. A deckhand is required to fulfill the following duties:

– Working with and assisting the Captain, First Mate, Chef and Naturalist, as required.

– Assisting in ensuring the safe operation of the vessel.

– Assisting in ensuring the environmentally sound operation of the vessel.

– Assisting with any ship maintenance, that may be required.

– Cabin steward duties, which include, as follows: ensuring the heads are cleaned daily, and more if required, ensuring the guest cabins, galley, salon, and wheelhouse are vacuumed once daily, and more if required, ensuring the ship’s deck is always clean and tidy, ensuring that all laundry is done on board as needed.

– Kitchen duties, which include, as follows: Assisting in shopping, storing and food preparation, as required, ensuring that all dishes and cooking utensils are washed and put away, ensuring galley is clean and tidy after all meals.

Required:

– MED A1/ A2

– Marine / Wilderness 1st Aid and CPR

– Food Safe and Serving it Right

– Able to work as part of a team for extended periods in a variety of weather conditions.

– Experience working on berthed live aboard vessels in a customer service role.

Preferred:

– Relevant work experience on the BC Coast

– Degree or post-secondary education in natural/environmental science or adventure tourism, Bear Guiding, Gwaii Haanas Guiding

– Guiding/outdoor leadership certifications and relevant experience

– BC Coast navigation

– MED A1/A2, STCW Basic, Adv. Firefighting, Survival Craft

– SVOP, SVMO

– Marine/Wilderness 1st Aid (CPR)

– Restricted Operators Card – Marine Commercial (ROC-MC)

– Sail training experience

– A background in natural history interpretation is a major asset in this role.
