Gwaii Haanas Legacy Pole – New York Times

Coastal writer and kayaker Bruce Kirkby has published a beautiful article in the New York Times about the raising of the Gwaii Haanas legacy pole in 2013.

The pole commemorates the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Gwaii Haanas agreement, which enshrined protection for this spectacular archipelago, following years of protests, by Haida and other island residents, conservation organizations and citizens of all kinds in British Columbia, against clearcut logging here.

You can read Bruce’s excellent article in the New York Times.
